Contra Costa Water District
Formed in 1936, Contra Costa Water District is a public water municipality delivering clean water to approximately 500,000 people in central and eastern Contra Costa County in Northern California. CCWD is one of the largest urban water districts in California, a leader in drinking-water treatment technology and source water protection.
I worked with CCWD in delivering a total core brand refresh as well as branding and creating collateral for their Los Vaqueros Reservoir Expansion Project, on separate occasions.
CCWD Brand Standards
My team and I explored the assessed existing and past CCWD branding and core mission of the municipality. After discussing the findings with a panel consisting of heads of each department at CCWD, I began designing the core collateral and Brand Standards Manual, concurrently.

From A–Z
My team flowed the look and feel across numerous templates, used in both internal and external communications. I compiled the lot into the Brand Standards along with various internal documents and policies, resulting in a 40+ page booklet. All of the templates and collateral are thoroughly detailed in their respective parameters and are used at every level of the water agency. This project in total, was a massive undertaking and full team effort.
Los Vaqueros Reservoir Expansion Project
CCWD needed branding and collateral to be used for their submitted proposal, seeking Prop 1 funding from state gov (California Proposition 1, the Water Bond (Assembly Bill 1471), November 4, 2014). Their plan was to expand their massive reservoir, make improvements to, and add additional infrastructure as well as connect several water municipalities together for the first time. In total this was to address the on-going drought issues that plague California yearly.

Over the course of 3 days, I toured and shot the various sites, infrastructure and bodies of water maintained by CCWD. The photos were used on Expansion Project collateral and are currently used on CCWD’s websites as well as various printed pieces in circulation.
